Created by Mrs. Derr-Littman for the Keyboarding (KB) and Business Computer Technology (BCT) classes.

VISION
Students will use engaging technologies in collaborative, inquiry-based learning environments with teachers who are willing and able to use technology's power to assist them in transforming knowledge and skills into products solutions, and new information.
While skills and content outlined in the curriculum for KB and BCT classes are taughts, students will also develop the top five skills needed for the 21st century: collaboration, communication, problem-solving, questioning, and independent learning.
This wiki is used to provide students access to resources and information inside and outside of the classroom.
RESOURCES ON THE CLASSROOM WIKI
- PowerPoint Handouts are posted on the wiki so that students have unlimited opportunities to revisit instruction to build comprehension.
- "How To" sheets are posted for students to refer to when typing a letter, memorandum, or unbound report.
- Class assignments and instructions are updated daily to help students complete the required lessons.
- What's New and What's Fun webpages are linked for students to enjoy while the teacher is preparing for the start of the lesson.
OTHER RESOURCES AND WEBPAGES USED FOR INSTRUCTION
- Google Docs includes FREE word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation applications. These free online documents are great to use for project collaboration because the documents created can be shared. Everything is hosted online so kids do not have to keep up with a flashdrive or be concerned about using a PC or Mac computer. www.Google.com
- Edmodo provides a safe and easy way for the class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices. www.Edmodo.com
- Blogger is used to engage students and encourage them to read and write online.
- Type To Learn - (TTL) typing program that is accessed at school. There are 25 lessons and the target is 35 words per minute with 85% accuracy. Congratulations to the students who have finised TTL: Alexis F, Jessica H, Quantaisha M, Pierson H.
BENEFITS OF THE CLASSROOM WIKI
- allows the lab to GO GREEN
- cuts printing costs in the classroom
- allows student access 24/7 from school and home
- reduces budget costs by $1,247 per year
Data for calculations: average handouts per student per day (2), average number of students taught in a day (105), average price per black and white print/copy (.033)
Even though students are engaged in the lessons for the KB and BCT classes I also use Blogs and Collaborative Tools to Improve Student Writing. Blogging and the use of other web-writing tools enhance student writing and help to reach curriculum goals. Writing platforms like blogs, wikis, and forums inspire opportunities for collaboration, peer review and critical thinking that traditional writing assignments struggle in accomplishing.
